My life in the Aspergers lane. Chaz, my 10 year old was diagnosed with Aspergers when he was 5 years old. It explained a lot but I have so much more to learn to help my son. Seeking answers and documenting my journey here. Be the sunshine for your child when they come home with dark clouds hanging over them. Be the rainbow that brings hope by speaking up for them.
"Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning." Psalm 30:5

When Should You Tell a Child They Have Asperger's?
Daniel was 8 when we got his diagnosis. He was already very frustrated and discouraged. He was constantly confronted with being different. From the beginning we told him he had a special brain that came with special strengths and struggles. Eventually, his younger brother was asking what exactly Daniel had. Telling Robert that Daniel had Asperger's made Robert more compassionate but required us to introduce that word into the conversation. Slowly we replaced "Special Brain" with "Aspergers". Now both are a part of our dialog. Daniel turned 13 last Saturday and I think we have been saying it for about 2 years now.
